This is my grandmothers flat bread recipe. It is a flat bread made with flour, bicarb soda, salt, sugar, oil and buttermilk. Tastes great alone or with dinner.


Serves: 6 

  • 8 1/2 cups (1kg) flour
  • 1 teaspoon bicarb soda
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 1 litre buttermilk

Preparation:20min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:35min 

  1. Mix flour, salt and bicarb soda. Mix oil, sugar and buttermilk. Add flour and oil mixtures, until a workable batter forms.
  2. Roll small amounts out thinly on a floured surface. Put on a greased baking tray. Prick surface. Bake at 190 degrees C for 15 minutes or until golden.
  3. Tear off pieces to eat. Won’t last long.
