This moist loaf is chock full of nuts. It has plenty of milk to keep it moist and a bit of butter too. Enjoy for breakfast or morning tea with a dob of butter.

The Walters

Makes: 2 loaves

  • 4 cups (500g) self-raising flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped
  • 1/2 cup dates, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/2 cups milk

Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Extra time:30min cooling  ›  Ready in:1hour15min 

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease 2 loaf tins.
  2. Sift flour and salt together. Rub in the butter. Add nuts, dates and sugar. Add beaten egg and milk then bake in loaf tins in preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  3. Allow to cool before slicing.
