This no nonsense bran loaf uses just the basics: flour, bran, bicarb, cream of tartar, a bit of golden syrup to sweeten and some milk to bind. Enjoy.
Makes: 1 loaf
2 cups plain flour
1/2 cup bran
1/2 teaspoon bicarb soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
2 teaspoons golden syrup or treacle
milk, to bind

- Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
- Combine flour, bran, bicarb soda and cream of tartar. Stir in treacle then just enough milk to bind.
- Pour into the loaf tin and bake until a knife inserted in the centre comes out clean, about 30 minutes.
