Spicy Sultana Tea Bread

    This spicy tea bread loaf has flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, sultanas, glace cherries, golden syrup and is sprinkled with granulated sugar then baked until golden.

    Serves: 6 

    • 2 cups (250g) self raising flour
    • 30g soft brown sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 - 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 60g sultanas
    • 30g glace cherries
    • 1/2 cup (125ml) milk
    • 1 rounded tablespoon golden syrup
    • granulated sugar, for sprinkling

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Mix together flour, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, sultanas and cherries. Add milk and golden syrup then beat well.
    2. Put mixture into a greased 16cm cake tin. Sprinkle with granulated sugar.
    3. Bake at for 45 minutes, until toothpick inserted into centre comes out clean. Allow to cool. Serve sliced and buttered.
