Why buy your crumpets at the shop when you can make them at home?

Makes: 6 crumpets

  • 500g flour
  • 600ml (1 pint) warm milk
  • 25g butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 15g dried yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:30min 

  1. Heat milk until just below boiling. Stir in sugar then allow to cool to lukewarm. Add yeast.
  2. Add butter and salt. Sprinkle in flour to make a think batter. Cover and allow to rise for 30 minutes.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of mixture onto a hot greased griddle and brown one side (about 5 minutes). Flip and do the same to the other side.

five stars for ease of making, 3.5 for taste for my first attempt since it is so easy, this could be affected by brand and type of flour and yeast. The taste of first batch was very yeasty, I will try some variations of these to see if I get what I think is ideal. - 24 Apr 2014
