Paua fritters are a traditional New Zealand dish that make a great main meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
1 cup plain flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
6 pauas, minced
1 onion, finely chopped
1 cup (250ml) milk
Butter, for frying
- Mix dry ingredients. Mix in egg, then paua and onion.
- Add milk to make it as the consistency of pikelet batter. Pour small amounts into frying pan with butter.
- Fry until golden brown on bottom, flip and fry other side until golden brown.
Paua is the New Zealand shellfish also known as abalone.
This is a sensational recipe, able to be adapted to your individual taste. Experiment! Cheers.

I would like to try it by dicing the paua instead of mincing it.
