A simple, effective and ever so yummy chilli that will feed the whole family. I cook this frequently for friends and family and it always goes down a treat =) This recipe is made to a medium heat to suit most pallets.

KITKATx2 Bay of Plenty, New Zealand

Serves: 5 

  • 500g Lean mince
  • 4 Garlic cloves
  • 2 Medium onions
  • 2 Celery sticks
  • 2 Peppers (Capsicums) red and green
  • 2tsp Cumin powder
  • 2tsp Hot chilli powder
  • 1tsp Paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 800g Tinned chopped tomatoes
  • 1 Tin of kidney beans
  • 2 Beef stock cubes
  • 1 glug Balsamic vinegar

Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:2hours  ›  Ready in:2hours15min 

  1. Peel and finely chop all vegetables
  2. Heat some oil in a large pan, add vegetables and cook on a medium heat for 3-4 mins.
  3. Add salt, pepper, spices, tomatoes and kidney beans. Stir and cook for 3 mins.
  4. Break up mince and add to pan (no need to brown first)fill 3/4 of kidney bean can with water and add. Add balsamic vinegar and crumble in two stock cubes - stir well. Leave to simmer for 2 hours stirring every 20-30 mins.
  5. Serve on a bed of rice, with tortilla chips, or even a jacket potato. ENJOY!


The exact recipe can be used in the slow cooker on low for 8hrs.


For those who don't like a lot of spice, half the quantity of the spices. I personally tend to double it but i understand that's not to everyone's taste =)
