Canadian Butter Tarts

    Delicious sweet tarts with an ooey gooey filling. I ate these all the time as a kid, then when in Highschool, my cooking teacher taught me how to make them. We used ready made tart shells but I also like to make them myself when I have the time by just using a simple pie pastry recipe.

    Makes: 24 Mini Tarts

    • 225 ml dark brown sugar
    • 100 ml maple syrup
    • 100 ml margarine
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • Pinch salt
    • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
    • 250 ml golden raisins
    • 24 Frozen mini tart shells, unbaked, unsweetened

    Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:35min 

    1. Preheat oven to moderately hot (190C). Place tart shells on a baking tray. They can be close together.
    2. Mix all ingredients together well, except raisins.Stir in raisins.
    3. Fill each tart shell just to the bottom rim of shell edge. Making sure you get raisins in each one.
    4. Bake 15-20 minutes. Remove from tray onto cooling rack to cool.


    If you like, you can add chopped walnuts in the mix
