This is a simple lime based margarita that is stirred then served over crushed ice. Great to have a jug of this and good source of ice available on a hot day.

Serves: 6 

  • 1 cup tequila
  • 1/2 cup cointreau
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 lime, cut into slices
  • sea salt
  • crushed ice, as required

Preparation:10min  ›  Ready in:10min 

  1. Combine the tequila, cointreau and lime juice in a litre jug. Stir to mix. Drop in 2 or three slices of lime.
  2. To serve rub the rim of a margarita glass with lime then dip in salt. Half fill the glass with ice then pour in the margarita mixture. Garnish with a slice of lime.

I love margaritas when they are made with fresh lime juice. As written, this is a little tart for me, so I'll have to add a little simple syrup to it. Thanks for this drink--on this very Cinco de Mayo Day for we Americans! - 05 May 2013
