Blood Orange Granita

    Blood oranges give this granita a beautifully dramatic colour. You can also substitute water for the alcohol if you want to make it for kids.

    Serves: 12 

    • 3/4 cup (185ml) vodka
    • 3/4 cup (185ml) brandy
    • 1/2 cup (125ml) freshly squeezed lemon juice
    • 4 cups (1 litre) freshly squeezed blood orange juice
    • 4 cups (1 litre) of lemonade
    • fresh mint sprigs to garnish

    1. Mix together vodka, brandy, lemon and blood orange juice together in a large freezer-proof container. Cover with a tight-fitting lid and freeze for 24 hours.
    2. When you are ready to serve the granita, use an ice cream scoop to place one or two scoops of the mixture into each glass. Fill the rest of the glass with sparkling lemonade. Stir and serve with a sprig of fresh mint in each glass.
