Classic Toad in the Hole

The classic recipe of pork sausages cooked in a golden Yorkshire pudding batter. Gravy is essential with this dish.

Hi slackalice! A deep sided roasting tin or casserole dish that's about 28cm x 18cm (11 x 7 inches) would work well for this recipe.

A great dish, I know from past experience that this is always best baked in a metal dish than in ceramic.

THIS WAS SO SIMPLE AND DELICIOUS! I made my version of the recipe due to what was on hand. So I'm not sure it was quite authentic, but still yummy nonetheless. Anyway, I used Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage(cut into slices). I also added some cooked onion to the sausage and oil. To the pudding mixture I added some garlic powder along with the salt/pepper. Was crusty and delicious when done ~ I served this with a simple mustard(my family not keen on the onion gravy). Was very simple and a casual meal keeper. Thanks so much!!!!

Its pretty good, but it awesome if you add a bit of mustard power and Worcestershire sauce to the mix (Mum's secret ingredients). It just gives it that extra bit of flavour to the batter.

Something else. I have a fan oven so adjusted the temperature when putting back in with the batter in. I put it down to 180c and cooked for 30 mins. Turned out fabulous.

After two failed attempts at Toad in the Hole using recipes from top TV chefs, I finally had success with this recipe. Not only is it idiot-proof and very easy to prepare, it is absolutely delicious too - even my fussy French boyfriend was impressed!! Try it for yourself
