Scrumptious Sausage Rolls

    25 minutes

A simple sausage roll recipe that has apple , carrot and onion in it. Nice if you like your sausage rolls with a touch of sweetness to them. These freeze really well and are great to make in a large batch. Kids love to help making these. They love to get their hands dirty mixing the sausage meat and vegetables.

    1. Preheat oven to 180 Celsius.
    2. Line a baking tray with some baking paper.
    3. Separate sheets of frozen puff pasty and lay out on bench with plastic backing still on. This will prevent it from sticking to your bench as it thaws.
    4. Grate apple, carrot and chop onion finely into a bowl and mix
    5. Add sausage mince and pepper and get your hands in there and mix it in well
    6. Cut each puff pastry sheet horizontally in half
    7. Crack egg into a cup and lightly beat.
    8. Using a pastry brush. Brush some of the egg horizontally across the top and bottom of each half of the puff pastry.
    9. Grab some of the sausage mixture and make a long sausage out of it and place in the middle of the puff pastry pieces.
    10. Fold top over peeling the plastic off as you go. The top and bottom of the puff pastry will overlap underneath your sausage roll.
    11. Chop your long sausage roll into the lengths you want.
    12. Brush more egg over the top of your sausage rolls and place onto baking tray covered in baking paper.
    13. Place in oven, seam down and cook until outside is golden brown and the meat is firm and cooked.

You can add fresh herbs to these sausage rolls to have more of a gourmet taste or even try some Indian curry powders. Or if you want to really impress your friends go all out and sprinkle them with poppy or sesame seeds.
