Here's a sinful brownie recipe especially for the adults! A chocolate, cream cheese and liqueur treat that's sure to be a hit all around.


Serves: 12 

  • 60g butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cups (250g) white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups (155g) plain flour
  • 1/2 cup (45g) cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) coffee flavoured liqueur
  • 450g cream cheese, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup (50g) white sugar
  • 1/4 cup (30g) plain flour
  • 30g butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) vodka

  1. Preheat oven to 170 degrees C. Grease and flour a 20cm square baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, cream sugar and butter. Add eggs and mix well. Stir in 1/2 cup of the coffee liqueur.
  3. Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Stir into the butter mixture until well blended. Spread half of this mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  4. In another bowl, stir together flour and sugar. Add softened cream cheese and mix well. Stir in egg, butter and the vodka. Mix until smooth. Spread this evenly over the chocolate layer.
  5. Pour the remaining chocolate mixture over the top of this. You can make a pattern of stripes or swirl the chocolate with a toothpick.
  6. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven. When brownies are cool, brush with the remaining 1/4 cup of coffee liqueur.
