Use whatever your favourite type of bread is in this easy French toast recipe. Beautiful for a special breakfast.

Serves: 12 

  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 cup low fat milk
  • 3 tablespoons soft brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 12 slices bread
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • oil or butter for frying

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:25min  ›  Ready in:35min 

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs. Add the milk, brown sugar and nutmeg stirring well to combine.
  2. Soak bread slices in the egg mixture until saturated.
  3. Heat a lightly oiled frying pan over medium high heat. Brown slices on both sides, sprinkle with cinnamon and serve hot.

Used different ingredients. I loved this recipe. I did modify it instead of milk I used double cream. Yummy! Be sure not to let your bread soak too long, I usually just coat one side, then the other and onto the hot pan. Yummy - 08 Oct 2008

My husband, who has very little cooking experience, wanted to make french toast for us and so I looked up this recipe for him. This turned out so well that it is now our very favourite recipe for french toast...and I have tried dozens of different recipes for french toast. - 08 Oct 2008
