Peanut Butter Chocolate Cereal Bars

    These are very rice sweet bars made of peanut butter and rice cereal and covered with a chocolate icing.

    Serves: 12 

    • 1/2 cup golden syrup
    • 1/2 cup peanut butter
    • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
    • 2 cups crispy rice cereal
    • 1 cup icing sugar
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 2 tablespoons milk
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 2 teaspoons cocoa powder

    1. In saucepan, over medium heat, melt golden syrup, peanut butter and brown sugar.
    2. Remove from heat and add cereal. Mix well and press into buttered square pan and let cool.
    3. To make icing: Combine the rest of the ingredients. Add more milk, if necessary, until smooth and spreadable.

    I love this receipe, I have been making this receipe for years and have always wanted to add this receipe. I also add 1 tbsp of butter or margarine to the sauce pan when I am melting the peanut butter mixture. I also add 1/2 cup of spanish nuts (peanuts with brown skins on) to receipe before I add the rice krispies.     This sweet confection comes together really fast. Be sure to have your dish buttered before you start! I made a double batch of this and put it in a 9 x 11 dish. I followed another reviewer's advice and used 12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips melted with 2 Tbs. of butter for the topping. People couldn't keep their hands off these!     These were ok. I used only 1-1/2 T milk and the icing was the perfect consistency. I also put them in the frig for about 15 minutes to set up.
