Spicy Orange Chicken

    This is a great recipe my whole family loves. Chicken is coated in spices, fried, then simmered gently in orange juice.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4 

    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon hot Hungarian paprika
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
    • 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
    • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    • 1/2 cup (125ml) orange juice

    Directions
    Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:30min 

    1. Combine the salt, pepper, hot paprika, cumin, cinnamon and brown sugar in a small bowl. Sprinkle the spices on the chicken using all of the spice mixture.
    2. Heat oil in a large frypan over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken in the hot oil for 4 minutes. Turn the chicken and lower heat to medium-low. Pour in the orange juice; simmer until chicken is cooked through, about 7 minutes. Serve the chicken with a bit of the pan sauce spooned over the each piece.

    tips:

    chicken stock can be used instead of the orange juice for a less sweet dish.

    tips:

    Chicken thighs work well in this dish also.

    its like candy chicken with hotsauce on it. I didn't like it very much, but I hope that with tweaking this recipe it can be pretty good. I get where you are going with the recipe though.  -  05 May 2009  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

    I made this as is and thought it was great! The smell of the spices was very yummy and it came out sweet with a little kick. I guess I did change one ingredient- I couldn't find hot paprika so I used a combo of regular paprika and cayenne pepper.     This was great. We loved the spice's on the chicken. My husband and son both commented on how good the chicken was.It was a little sweet and spicy, Yum. I did do something alittle different [sorry] I drained the oil,used 1/4 c. of orange juice and 1/4 c. of chicken broth,[I keep a container of it in the fridge] scrapped the brown bits up. Put a can of low fat cream of mushroom soup in it. The only reason for that is because we had rice with it and my husband has to have gravy. I'll diffently make this again.
