Basic Beef Pasta Bake

    This is my basic beef pasta bake recipe which can be adjusted with olives, spinach or other vegetables.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 8 

    • 250g penne
    • 500g lean beef mince
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 125g mushrooms, drained
    • 800g spaghetti sauce
    • 2 cups grated mozzarella cheese

    Directions
    Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:40min  ›  Ready in:55min 

    1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted boil water to a boil. Cook pasta in boiling water for 8 to 10 minutes, or until al dente. Drain well.
    2. Meanwhile, cook beef mince and chopped onions in a frypan over medium heat until browned.
    3. In a large bowl, mix together the mushrooms, spaghetti sauce, grated mozzarella cheese, pasta and browned beef mince and onion mixture. Transfer to a greased 20x30cm casserole dish.
    4. Bake at 170 degrees C for 20 minutes, or until very hot.

    Made a few modifications. Was pretty good. Added some italian seasoning and used only cup of mozzarella and added some parmesan. Next time I will use fresh mushrooms, the canned ones just didn't do it for me. Will def make again  -  14 Aug 2007  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

    This is a great, quick dinner. I used ground turkey, low fat cheese and whole wheat pasta. I added a few garlic cloves in with the onion, and added plenty of basil, oregano and a little black pepper. I will definately make this again.  -  23 Mar 2006  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

    My family loves this recipe!!! It's quick, easy, and kid-friendly... all 4 of my kids will usually take seconds (even my 2-yr old will sit down and eat all her dinner without fussing). I sprinkle the cheese over the top instead of mixing it into the pasta though... I think it makes it look a little more appetizing.  -  25 Feb 2008  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
