Chocolate Walnut Oat Bars

This recipe is for easy to make oat bars topped with chocolate and walnuts. Great for snacks or afternoon tea.


Serves: 9 

  • 2 cups (300g) rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup (90g) packed brown sugar
  • 125g butter
  • 1/4 cup (65ml) dark golden syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 185g dark chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C. Grease one 23cm square pan.
  2. Combine the oats and the sugar. Set aside.
  3. In a saucepan melt the butter or margarine. Stir in the golden syrup, salt and vanilla. Pour over the oat and sugar mixture and mix well. Pat into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  4. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Do not overbake! It will be bubbly when done. While bars cool melt the chocolate. Spread melted chocolate over bars and sprinkle with nuts. Let cool and cut into bars.
