Buttery Oat Biscuits

    This is an extremely simple biscuit recipes that makes delicious buttery nibbles. Perfect with afternoon tea or coffee.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 18 

    • 125g unsalted butter
    • 1 cup (150g) rolled oats
    • 3 tablespoons self-raising flour
    • 1/2 cup (110g) white sugar
    • 1 egg, beaten
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence

    Directions
    Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:12min  ›  Ready in:27min 

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Line baking trays with baking paper.
    2. Melt butter over low heat. Pour into bowl and stir in the rest of the ingredients. Mix well.
    3. Drop 3cm apart by the teaspoonful onto baking paper. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until light golden brown. Let cool on rack.

    Tasted alright, but big buttery mess which wouldn't set even after leaving out an hour. I did add a small amount of honey to it, in all fairness, but I can't see how it would have caused the mess. Just a small amount for taste.  -  12 Apr 2014

    My husband and his golfing buddies absolutely love these. I use a sugar substitute instead so he can eat as many as he wants.     I had no parchment paper so I put a layer of sugar on a sheet of aluminum foil and baked these. Super crispy super delicious. I substituted egg beaters for the eggs and used 1/2 cup blue bonnet 1/2 cup fat free I can't believe it's not butter spread and these turned out wonderfully. I also used 1/2 cup splenda 1/4 white sugar and 1/4 cup brown sugar. All of these substitutions seemed to work well  -  02 Apr 2009  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
