Baked Hot Dogs

    30 minutes

    Here's a great kid's lunch or snack, a little different from the average hot dog! They're great with or without a bun. Add tomato sauce, mustard and onions if you like.

    Serves: 1 

    • 1 frankfurt
    • 1 slice Cheddar cheese
    • 1 slice bacon

    Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:15min  ›  Ready in:30min 

    1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C.
    2. Make a slit along the entire length of the frankfurt about 3/4 of the way through. Break the cheese slice into two pieces and stuff each piece into the slit. Wrap the bacon slice around the frankfurt in a spiral fashion, then secure all with a toothpick. Place on a baking tray or baking dish.
    3. Bake at for 10 to 15 minutes or until bacon is crisp.

    Great recipe! Brought back old memories for me, also. I am the chef & Aunt in a busy household with my brother, his wife and their 5 kids. I mention that because my sister-in-law wasn't too fond of the "Mad Dog" idea because of the high fat content. So, we compromised: Regular hotdogs, reduced fat cheese and (preheated) turkey bacon. They cooked up nicely with a lot less grease. **Here's my twist on it though: I wrapped them in cresent rolls before baking, as my mother used to do. We then used our condiments as a dipping sauce rather then a topping.     i like this recipe so did my neice, the only thing was that the bacon didn't get cripsy like i thought. It could be because i used thicker bacon, maybe next will use regular bacon. I did put it under the broiler for a few minutes and that did help but not to my moms liking but she likes her bacon really crispy.     I made these for a 4th of July cookout and they were a huge hit! I used beef hot dogs and american cheese. I also used pre-cooked bacon. Instead of wrapping and securing the bacon, I just placed a strip on top of each dog while baking. Served with catsup, mustard and finely chopped onions.
