This is a wonderful hot lunch somewhat similar to the American dish called 'sloppy joes' or an Australian savoury mince roll. Easy and good!

    Ingredients
    Serves: 4

    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 1 clove garlic, minced
    • 1 onion, chopped
    • 500g lean beef mince
    • 1/2 cup (125ml) tomato juice
    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 2 teaspoons seasoned salt
    • 1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
    • 4 hamburger buns

    Directions
    Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:30min

    1. In a large frypan over medium heat saute garlic in oil until it begins to brown. Add onion and saute until soft. Add beef and saute, stirring constantly with a fork to crumble as finely as possible.
    2. When meat is browned add the tomato juice, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt and cayenne pepper. Stir together and let simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the liquids have evaporated (about 15 to 20 minutes). Spoon mixture onto hamburger buns and serve.

I just whipped up a batch of this to use for a dinner later in the week, but I snuck a bite as it came out of the skillet and yum! I didn't have tomato juice on hand, so I used some spicy V8, thinned with a bit of water to cut the heat (so hopefully my daughter will eat it) and omitted the cayenne. Also used liquid smoke instead of browning sauce (not sure what the difference between these 2 is anyway) and cut the brown sugar down to 1 tsp instead of 2. I must say, if I already had the burger buns on hand, I might have one for lunch right now :-) Thanks for the recipe, I'm a huge Roseanne fan so I just had to try it out.  -  08 Mar 2007  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

This recipe is good. To me they are like Sloppy Joes. Being a chef I love too cook and am always looking for something different and fun that make my kids want to eat what I make. I will make these again.  -  03 Dec 2007  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

Very very good! But the recipe needs pepper (lots) and more seasoning salt. I hope this is as good as the ones at the Lunchbox on Roseanne because they would surely do well. AWESOME  -  01 Jul 2007  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
