This is a great pasta bake with a creamy flavour like beef stroganoff. It's wonderfully convenient because you make it the day ahead or even freeze it until you need to bake it.

    Ingredients
    Serves: 9

    • 750g lean beef mince
    • 250g fresh pasta
    • 250g container sour cream
    • 250g cream cheese, softened
    • 60g grated cheddar cheese
    • 6 spring onions, thinly sliced
    • 500g tomato pasta sauce
    • 1 tablespoon white sugar
    • 2 tablespoons grated Cheddar cheese

    Directions
    Preparation:30min  ›  Cook:40min  ›  Extra time:8hours chilling  ›  Ready in:9hours10min

    1. Place beef mince in a large deep frypan. Cook over medium-high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble and set aside.
    2. In a large pot of boiling salted water cook pasta until al dente. Drain well.
    3. In a greased 20x30cm casserole dish layer the cooked and drained pasta on the bottom.
    4. In a medium size bowl combine the sour cream, cream cheese, grated Cheddar cheese and chopped spring onions. Spread mixture over cooked pasta in baking dish.
    5. In a small bowl combine the sugar, tomato sauce and cooked beef mince. Layer this on top of the sour cream mixture in the baking dish. Sprinkle with additional grated Cheddar cheese, if desired.
    6. Refrigerate casserole overnight. Remove from refrigerator one hour before baking.
    7. Bake at 180 degrees C for 30 to 40 minutes. Allow to stand 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
    8. If freezing casserole, allow to come to room temperature for one hour before baking.

This was really good! I had read others suggestions and heres what I did. I used more cheddar cheese on both the bottom and the top, I used a large can of spaghetti sauce instead of the tomato sauce and I put a layer of sliced olives on top of the cream cheese/sour cream mixture. The result was so yummy! I do admit though that leftovers are even BETTER so I think next time I will cook it the day before I want to serve it, then put it in the fridge and reheat it the following day. Pure comfort food that you and your family will love.  -  15 Sep 2006  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

The hubby & I thought this was great. I had some fresh pasta to use up so I decided to make this. I sprinkled more cheese on top than what it called for and used half a tablespoon of sugar. I also used Chive & Onion cream cheese. Yummy!  -  16 Apr 2003  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

Wow, I was a little skeptical, but this worked out so well. Super easy to make. I put a little oregano on top of the tomato sauce and meat mixture for just a little extra flavor. For those who had trouble with spreading the cream cheese mixture over the noodles, I put dollops all over, and the heat from the pasta softened the dollops making it easy to spread out. Very good recipe, will definately make again!  -  15 Jan 2008  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
