This is an usual and delicious bread with a texture similar to an English muffin, and just like an English muffin it needs to be toasted to taste right.

Serves: 24 

  • 3 cups (375g) plain flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup (250ml) warm milk
  • 1/4 cup (65ml) water

  1. Place ingredients in the bread machine pan in the order suggested by the manufacturer. Select the dough cycle.
  2. Divide dough into two parts and shape into loaves. Place in loaf tins - non-stick tins are preferable, but greased and floured normal tins will suffice. Cover and allow to raise until doubled in size.
  3. Bake at 200 degrees for about 15 minutes. You can bake them a little longer if you want a chewier crust.
