    These are beautiful traditional Greek butter biscuits with a whole clove in each (don't eat the clove!). They are great for special occasions.

    Makes: 30 biscuits

    • 250g butter
    • 4 tablespoons icing sugar
    • 2 cups plain flour, sifted
    • 1 cup walnuts, diced
    • 2 tablespoons water
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla essence
    • 30 whole cloves
    • 1/3 cup icing sugar, for decoration

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C.
    2. Cream butter and sugar until smooth. Blend in flour. Stir in nuts, water and vanilla; mix well.
    3. Shape into small balls and press down on an ungreased baking tray. Press a whole clove into the top of each.
    4. Bake for 20 minutes. While still warm roll in icing sugar.
