    This is a very rich and chocolately dense cake that is covered in a chocolate glaze. Perfect for the chocolate lover for dessert any time.

    Serves: 12 

    • Cake
    • 125g butter
    • 1/2 cup (125ml) golden syrup
    • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
    • 1/2 cup (125g) white sugar
    • 3 eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
    • 1 cup (125g) plain flour
    • 1 cup chopped walnuts
    • Glaze
    • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
    • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
    • 1 tablespoon golden syrup
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
    • 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries

    1. Cake: Butter and flour a 23cm round cake tin.
    2. In a saucepan over low heat melt butter and golden syrup.
    3. Stir in chocolate chips until melted.
    4. Remove from heat and add sugar and eggs then stir until blended.
    5. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla, flour and nuts.
    6. Pour into cake tin. Bake at 180 degrees C for 30 minutes or until centre springs back when touched.
    7. Cool in tin for 10 minutes. Then place on a cake rack.
    8. Glaze: Combine chocolate chips, butter and golden syrup in saucepan. Stir over low heat until chocolate chips are melted. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla.
    9. Glaze tops and sides of torte. Chill until set. Garnish with sliced strawberries.
