    Easy to prepare this Brandy and brown sugar sauce makes a great topping to cakes such as apple, banana or fruitcake, turning it into a wonderful dessert.

    Serves: 10 

    • 65g butter
    • 3 tablespoons plain flour
    • 2/3 cup (125g) brown sugar
    • 1 cup (250ml) cold milk
    • 1/4 cup (60ml) brandy
    • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla essence

    1. Melt butter in a small saucepan set over medium heat. In a medium-size bowl stir flour with sugar. Then whisk into melted butter until mixture is moistened. Stir in milk until smooth. Cook whisking frequently until thickened and smooth; about 5 minutes. Stir in brandy and vanilla. Remove from heat.
    2. Serve right away over a cake or cover and refrigerate for a week or more. Reheat just before serving.
