Grilled Fish with Goat Cheese

This is a quick and easy grilled fish with a goat cheese crust and a lemony cream cheese sauce. Serve with a light salad.

Serves: 2 

  • 185g soft goat cheese
  • 1 tablespoon lemon pepper
  • 1 pinch salt to taste
  • 2 (185g) boneless fish fillets
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 5 tablespoons whipped cream cheese
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon diced fresh chives

  1. Preheat the oven's grill and set the oven rack at about 15cm from the heat source.
  2. In a small bowl stir together the goat cheese, lemon pepper and salt. Pat this evenly over the tops of the halibut steaks.
  3. Place the steaks on a baking tray. Pinch off tiny pieces of butter and place them on top of the cheese coating using about 1 tablespoon per steak.
  4. Grill for 4 to 5 minutes per 1cm of thickness of your fish fillets. You will know they are done when the cheese is browned and the fish can be flaked with a fork.
  5. While the fish is cooking combine the remaining butter, lemon juice, cream cheese, milk and chives in a small saucepan. Cook while stirring over low heat until everything is melted and smooth.
  6. Spoon sauce onto dinner plates then place the fish fillets on top to serve.
