    These chocolate and walnut brownies will have you coming back for more. Serve them as a treat for afternoon tea.

    Serves: 12 

    • 125g butter or margarine
    • 1 cup white sugar
    • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
    • 1 cup plain flour
    • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease a 20x20cm baking pan.
    2. Melt butter in medium saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in sugar and cocoa. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; stir into the chocolate mixture until just blended. Fold in walnuts if desired. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
    3. Bake for 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a wooden toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack.
