Preheat oven to 160 degrees C. Grease and flour a 23x33cm cake tin.
Mix together the flour, bicarbonate of soda, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Set aside.
In a large bowl cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the stewed apple. Fold in the walnuts and sultanas. Pour mixture into prepared tin.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool.
