Cake: Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease and flour a 23cm square cake tin.
In a medium bowl combine sultanas and flour. Add cinnamon, cloves and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Dissolve bicarbonate of soda into apple sauce then mix into creamed butter. Stir in the flour mixture and mix until smooth.
Pour mixture into cake tin and bake in preheated oven for 40 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. Cool in tin on cake rack for 5 minutes then remove from tin.
Glaze: Mix together icing sugar and milk, adding more milk if needed to make the glaze runny. Pour glaze over warm cake.
