This is a runny vinegar based barbecue sauce but its main ingredient is mustard so that is what I like to refer to it as. There are a heap of extra ingredients added so it tastes nothing like the shop bought mustards.


Serves: 10 

  • 1 1/2 cups (375ml) distilled white vinegar
  • 3/4 cup (185ml) prepared yellow mustard
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons chilli flakes
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar

Preparation:5min  ›  Cook:30min  ›  Ready in:35min 

  1. Stir the vinegar, mustard, margarine, salt, black pepper, chilli flakes, garlic and sugar together in a saucepan over medium-high heat until the mixture comes to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until thickened; about 25 minutes.
