BBQ Mustard

    35 minutes

This is a runny vinegar based barbecue sauce but its main ingredient is mustard so that is what I like to refer to it as. There are a heap of extra ingredients added so it tastes nothing like the shop bought mustards.

    4 people made this

    Serves: 10

    • 1 1/2 cups (375ml) distilled white vinegar
    • 3/4 cup (185ml) prepared yellow mustard
    • 1/4 cup margarine
    • 2 teaspoons salt
    • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
    • 2 teaspoons chilli flakes
    • 1 clove garlic, crushed
    • 1 tablespoon white sugar

    1. Stir the vinegar, mustard, margarine, salt, black pepper, chilli flakes, garlic and sugar together in a saucepan over medium-high heat until the mixture comes to a boil.
    2. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until thickened; about 25 minutes.

This is really close to what my family has always used, we just didn't use any sugar and added a dash of Tabasco sauce. It really refrigerates great and can be stored there for up to a year! We use it on EVERYTHING we grill! We just heat it up after coming out of the refrigerator!  -  22 Jul 2010  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)

To mustardy, to vinegary. Not for us. Halved the recipe and used on grilled chicken legs. My husband (who likes hot and spicy) said, "don't make this one again".  -  15 Nov 2010  (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
