What a refreshing, fiery twist on the classic, flat lemonade. Freeze some of this into ice cubes to use in the drinks, so it won't be diluted. Garnish with extra sliced lemons or use slices of lemon rind from the leftover juiced fruit.

Ingredients

600g caster sugar
3.5 litres water
14 slices fresh root ginger
1 litre fresh lemon juice (about 12-15 lemons)

Preparation method

1. In a large saucepan combine sugar, water and ginger. Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.
 
2. Stir in lemon juice. Cool for 15 minutes. Remove ginger. Refrigerate lemonade at least 1 hour, or until chilled.
 
3. Serve over ice, if desired, and garnish with lemon slices.

  • Didn't care for this much. The lemonade sticks to your mouth and isn't particularly refreshing.

    This is the best lemonade I've ever tasted! My whole family loves it. I've shared some with my friends and they ask for more! The ginger smooths the edges of the tart lemon juice and adds a wonderful dimension to an old favourite. Thanks!
