Square Chocolate Slice
Just the perfect size for a snack these squares of chocolate cake are really easy to make and use real chocolate.
Ingredients
Serves: 60
- 6 eggs, separated
- 250g butter, softened
- 3/4 cup (185g) caster sugar
- 200g dark chocolate, broken into chunks
- 3/4 cup (90g) almond meal
- 3/4 cup (90g) plain flour
- jam, to taste
- chocolate, melted

- In a large bowl whisk egg whites until stiff.
- In another bowl cream the butter with sugar until fluffy then beat in egg yolks.
- Melt chocolate with a little water in a saucepan over low heat then add the butter mixture. Stir in almonds and flour. Mix to incorporate then fold in the egg whites.
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees C.
- Transfer mixture into a baking tray lined with baking paper. Smooth over.
- Bake for about 10 minutes on the bottom shelf. It should be moist on the inside but dry on the outside.
- Leave to cool slightly then cut into small squares. Stick two squares together with jam and dip into the melted chocolate. Allow to set.

They are delicious! Covering the cubes with chocolate was difficult and messy, specially for my kid helpers, but they of course enjoyed it. It took a lot of chocolate to cover - I needed over 300g. - 17 Jan 2018 (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)
To die for..they are a bit involved, especially dunking them in the chocolate and scraping the excess chocolate takes some time, if you want them to look nice, but they taste delicious! - 06 Dec 2017 (Review from Allrecipes USA and Canada)
