Stir Fried Sausage and Broccoli

A simple but very tasty dish Chinese sausage is steamed then stir fried with blanched Chinese broccoli. Serve with rice.


Serves: 4 

  • 150g fresh Chinese broccoli (gai lan)
  • 100g Chinese pork sausage (lap cheung)
  • 150ml groundnut oil
  • 2.5cm piece fresh ginger, sliced
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 pinch sugar, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon cornflour, mixed with 2 teaspoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil

  1. Snap off the tough part of the broccoli and discard. Separate the leaves from the stems. Discard the wilted leaves. Cut the stems into 5cm lengths pieces.
  2. Steam the sausages and slice.
  3. Heat the oil in a wok, add ginger, salt and sausages. Stir fry until the sausages are aromatic.
  4. Blanch the broccoli in boiling water for 2 minutes and transfer to the ice water to cool. Drain.
  5. Add sugar, Chinese broccoli and stir fry.
  6. Add the cornflour slurry and stir fry for 1 minute.
  7. Transfer the Chinese broccoli and sausages to a serving plate. Drizzle with sesame oil and serve.


Chinese broccoli and Chinese pork sausages can be purchased in Asian speciality shops.
