Stir Fried Beef with Celery

    Quick and yummy are the two best words to describe this stir fried beef with celery. Seven minutes of cooking then serve with rice.

    Serves: 2 

    • 400g beef sirloin steak, finely sliced
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 1 tablespoon rice wine
    • 1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
    • 2 teaspoons cornflour
    • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
    • 2 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 200g Chinese celery, leaves discarded and cut into 4cm lengths

    1. Marinate the beef in salt, light soy sauce, sugar, rice wine, bicarbonate of soda, oil and cornflour in a bowl; mix well.
    2. Heat oil in a wok over medium heat until hot. Stir fry the celery for 2 minutes then remove and set aside.
    3. Add the remaining oil into the wok and heat until very hot. Stir fry the beef until almost cooked through.
    4. Stir in the celery and toss well. Serve.


    Chinese celery and rice wine can be purchased in Asian speciality shops. Alternatively ordinary celery can be substituted in for Chinese celery.
