Chinese Steamed Pork with Salted Duck Eggs

A traditional Chinese treat involving seasoned pork mince, mixed with salted duck eggs and steam. Serve with rice.


Serves: 2 

  • 300g pork mince
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon monosodium glutamate (MSG)
  • 2 salted duck eggs, separated
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cornflour
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons peanut oil
  • water as needed
  • chicken stock as needed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons soy sauce

  1. Combine the pork with salt, MSG, 1 tablespoon salted egg white, cornflour, pepper, peanut oil and a little bit of water and mix well. Shape into a thick burger and transfer to a heat-proof dish.
  2. Lightly spread the egg yolks over the pork. Steam over medium heat for at least 30 minutes or until cooked through.
  3. Meanwhile, mix together a little chicken stock with soy sauce. Drizzle this sauce over the pork when cooked. Serve immediately.


Salted duck eggs and monosodium glutamate can be purchased in Chinese/Oriental speciality shops.
