Stir Fried Soy Bean Sprouts

    An ideal side dish to an Asian meal soy bean sprouts are stir fried with light flavourings including garlic, soy sauce and spring onions. Serve warm or cold.

    Serves: 3 

    • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    • 400g soy bean sprouts, trimmed, rinsed and drained
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 1/2 tablespoons toasted black sesame seeds
    • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
    • 2 teaspoons finely diced garlic
    • 2 spring onions, cut into 2.5cm lengths
    • 1 teaspoon light soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon water

    1. Heat the oil in a frying pan until hot. Stir fry the bean sprouts and salt for 3 minutes over high heat.
    2. Add the black sesame seeds, sesame oil, garlic, spring onions, light soy sauce and water. Stir fry for 2 minutes more.
    3. Turn the heat down to low and continue to stir fry for another 2 minutes.
    4. Allow to cool to room temperature or chill for 30 minutes, serve.


    Toasted black sesame seeds and soy bean sprouts can be purchased in Asian speciality shops. If soy bean sprouts are unavailable, use ordinary bean sprouts.
