Shortcrust Pastry Dough

    This is an easy shortcrust pastry dough that can be used with any savoury pie, flan or tart. Use straight away or store in the fridge until needed.

    Serves: 4 

    • 2 cups (250g) plain flour
    • 1 pinch salt, to taste
    • 125g butter, cut into pieces
    • 1 egg yolk
    • 50ml water or more if needed

    1. In a food processor or a large bowl mix the flour with the salt and butter. Blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs and there are no chunks of butter left.
    2. Add the egg yolk and just enough water to make a non-sticky dough.
    3. Wrap and refrigerate if you have time or use immediately.

    I ended up using closer to 70ml of water. Works best if not refrigerated. Will be making this instead of buying pastry from now on.  -  18 Jun 2016


    Came together really well, I used a bit more than 50ml water, I'm very happy with it, no more bought shortcrust for me thank you for the recipe  -  04 May 2016
