A light, pretty dessert. Next time I'd pour some liquid over the cake - the cake stayed a bit dry. I didn't have port wine gelatin, I used strawberry gelatin and replaced 1/3 c. of the liquid with wine. I also doubled the custard - next time I'd triple it, since the trifle could have used more custard.

I just signed up to rate this recipe! It was so easy and so GREAT! Made it for two dinner parties and everyone loved it! One thing I did slightly different was made the custard according to the package instruction and served it with cream. Thanks for this wonderful recipe!

i love my grans traditional recipe for trifles,i line the bottom of the bowl with trifle sponges that have been cut i half with strawberry jam to make the "sandwich" part,then i make 2 strawberry jellies,let to go cold,add tinned fruit to the sponges,evening out,i use the syrup from the tinned fruit too,just pour it into the jelly mix,put in the fridge to set,when set pour on ready made custard,back in the fridge for a couple of hours,whisk a large pot of whipping cream on top of the custard and decorate the top with fresh strawberries,delicious,everyone likes my grans trifle and is so easy to make
