These deep fried fritters can be served with just salt and vinegar or with a sour cream dip. A great starter for any meal, also great with yoghurt.

Serves: 4 

  • 300ml good quality beer
  • 450g self-raising flour
  • pinch salt
  • oil for deep frying
  • 12 cooked beetroot wedges (2cm thick)
  • salt and black pepper, to season beetroot

  1. Pour the beer into a bowl, add the flour and pinch of salt and mix well until the batter is smooth and really thick.
  2. Preheat oil 180 degrees C.
  3. Season the wedges with the salt and pepper, then dust with a little flour.
  4. Coat the wedges with the batter and deep fry for around 4-5 minutes untill golden brown and crispy, remove and sprinkle lightly with salt then serve with any dip you like.
