This is a quick cook fried mackerel. The fish is lightly dusted in salt, chilli and turmeric before being shallow fried in about 2cm of oil.


Serves: 4 

  • 4 mackerel steaks
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
  • oil for frying

  1. Rinse the fish steaks and pat dry with paper towel. Rub the salt over both sides. Sprinkle the chilli and turmeric evenly over them and rub well.
  2. In a large wok or frying pan heat about 2cm of oil until hot. Shallow fry until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towel and serve immediately.
