This Asian style barbecued pork known as 'char siew' is the bright red one frequently found hanging in the window of Asian restaurants. You can add red food colouring to the recipe if you want the traditional colour.

Serves: 4
  • 1/2 kg pork shoulder with fat, cut into long strips
  • 3 cloves garlic, diced
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce

Preparation method

Prep: 10 minutes | Cook: 1 hour
1.
In a large bowl marinate the pork with the garlic, honey, hoisin sauce and soy sauce overnight.
2.
Preheat your oven to 180 degrees C.
3.
Place the pork in a roasting tray and roast for 30 minutes basting as necessary with leftover marinade.
4.
Flip and roast for another 30 minutes until cooked.
5.
Serve hot or cold with rice or noodles.
