Traditional Steak and Chips

    There is nothing like homemade steak and chips for an old fashioned hearty meal. No salads or vegetables; just meat and chips.

    Serves: 4 

    • 1 steak per person
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • 2 tablespoons dry white wine
    • 8 medium potatoes
    • oil for deep frying
    • 1 pinch salt and pepper, to taste

    1. Heat the oil in the deep fryer to 190 C.
    2. Cut the potatoes into chips.
    3. Wipe the chips with paper towel.
    4. Add the chips to the deep fat fryer and cook for 13 to 14 minutes.
    5. Remove the chips and bring the oil back to 180 C.
    6. Put the chips back in the deep fat fryer and cook for 4 more minutes.
    7. Remove the chips from the fryer.
    8. Drain well, pour the chips onto a large serving plate lined with paper towels, pat dry to remove the oil. Season with salt.
    9. Add the butter to a frying pan over high heat.
    10. Season the steaks with salt and pepper.
    11. Add the steaks to the frying pan.
    12. Cook for 3 minutes on each side or to your desired doneness.
    13. Remove the steaks from the frying pan and deglaze with the wine.
    14. Serve the steak with the chips and the wine sauce.
