Shaped like a heart and covered in red strawberries this cake is ideal for Valentine's Day or Mother's Day.


Serves: 4 

  • Cake
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup (155g) icing sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 4 tablespoons oil
  • 4 tablespoons advocaat
  • 1 1/2 cups (185g) flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • butter and breadcrumbs for the tin
  • Cream
  • 200g cheese
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 2 tablespoons advocaat
  • 400g cream
  • Decoration
  • 1-2 punnets strawberries, as required

Preparation:25min  ›  Cook:35min  ›  Ready in:1hour 

  1. Cake: Whisk the eggs with the icing sugar and vanilla until foamy. Add the oil and advocaat then mix in the flour with the baking powder.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C. Grease a heart shaped tin with butter then sprinkle with breadcrumbs and pour in the mixture. Bake for approximately 35-45 minutes in the preheated oven.
  3. Leave the cake to cool then cut through it horizontally and fill with the cream. Replace the top piece of cake, cover the sides with cream.
  4. Cream: Beat the cream cheese, lemon juice and advocaat. Whip the cream then mix into the cream cheese mixture.
  5. Decorate the top of the heart with strawberries.
