Slice bananas into 1.5cm thick slices, fry at moderate heat turning once until soft (about 5 minutes). Then add maple syrup or honey to coat the banana slices.
Meanwhile crush the pepper very coarsely in mortar and pestle.
Serve bananas on a plate on it a bowl, sprinkle with crushed pepper and a dollop of cream if desired.
Coarse black pepper isn't as hot as its finely ground counterpart and provides a great contrast to the sweetness of the bananas.
Cream or even sour cream or yogurt can be used to make the dessert more delicate.
