Gluten Free and Dairy Free Fish Batter

    Make your own gluten-free fried fish with this easy and light fish batter so everyone can enjoy fish in batter at home.

    Serves: 4 

    • 1 cup plain gluten-free flour
    • 2 teaspoons gluten-free baking powder
    • 1 cup rice flour
    • 1 egg
    • 1 cup soda water
    • 1 teaspoon seasoning of choice (e.g. salt, pepper etc)

    Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:20min 

    1. On a large plate sprinkle the rice flour, this is what you will be coating the fish in first.
    2. Into a mixing bowl toss the flour, baking powder, egg, seasoning of choice, stir.
    3. Then add the soda water - it will fizz up a fair bit so make certain you use a deepish bowl.
    4. Heat oil in a frypan. Coat the fish well in the rice flour, then, when the oil is hot, dredge the fish in the batter and carefully place straight in the hot frypan.
    5. Turn after approx. 5 minutes.

    I made this for my wife's family. Her mother and aunt have celiac. I deep fried it in corn oil and made fresh chips from Yukon gold potatos. My petite mother in law who barely eats anything on a regular basis, ate 6 pieces of fish. She's currently going through chemo, so I was very happy to see she had an appetite. My father in law eats fish and chips every opportunity he gets, and he raced about this gluten free version. I highly recommend this recipe.  -  19 Feb 2016

    Excellent, I used Club House Pepper Medley and Club House Garlic spice for seasoning. Next time I will only use 2/3 cup rice flour (possibly only 1/2). Also cooked for 3 minutes on the last set and it was beautiful! Tried 5 min. And 4 min. both times still had dark spots on the first side, 3 min. worked very well!  -  27 Jul 2016
