Easiest Apple Crumble

    55 minutes

Apple crumble is simple and a great way to use up any cooking apples. Apples are boiled until soft then topped with a crumb mix and baked until golden brown.

    Serves: 4

    • 3 to 4 cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced
    • 3/4 cup (180g) sugar
    • 1 1/2 cups (180g) plain flour
    • 90g butter or margarine

    1. Place the sliced apples into a saucepan full of water and heat gently until the apples are soft. Occasionally taste the water and add sugar to your liking as the apples can be quite bitter.
    2. Once the apples are soft remove them from the water and place into an ovenproof dish. Let them cool down and sprinkle some sugar over the top.
    3. Place the sugar, butter and the plain flour into a mixing bowl then rub together using your fingertips until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs. Place the breadcrumbs mixture on top of the apples.
    4. Bake at 200 degrees C for 30-40 minutes until the breadcrumb topping is golden brown.

a very nice basic apple crumble  -  02 May 2013  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)

This was a very simple and straightforward recipe that resulted in a very enjoyable desert. Certainly one to be tried again. One adjustment I made was at step three. Rather than sprinkle sugar on top of the apples, I drizzled two tabelspoons of maple syrup on them instead.  -  13 Feb 2016  (Review from Allrecipes UK & Ireland)
