This is a very simple scone recipe that produces plain scones that are just waiting for a jam and whipped cream topping.

Serves: 10

  • 1 3/4 cups (220g) self-raising flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 30g caster sugar
  • 50g margarine or butter, cubed
  • 1 egg
  • 100ml milk

Preparation:10min  ›  Cook:10min  ›  Ready in:20min

  1. Preheat oven to 220 degrees C. Lightly grease a baking tray.
  2. Place flour, baking powder and sugar into a bowl. Add cubed butter and rub in until resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  3. Break the egg into a measuring jug and add milk up to 150ml then whisk together.
  4. Add most of the egg mix to the flour mixture; reserve a little to brush over tops later. Mix to a soft dough.
