My walnut brownies are morish gooey chocolate treats that are an all year favourite. They are also super easy to make, I hope you like them as much as my family does.


Serves: 15 

  • 200g butter or margarine
  • 165g cocoa powder
  • 1 3/4 cups (280g) brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 cup (125g) plain flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 100g walnuts

Preparation:15min  ›  Cook:20min  ›  Ready in:35min 

  1. Line or grease a 20 x 18 cm cake tin. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C.
  2. Melt the butter and cocoa together in a saucepan. Add the sugar and vanilla. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Remove from the heat and mix in the flour then the eggs. Pour into the prepared cake tin.
  4. Bake for 20 minutes. They are cooked when the top is slightly springy.
  5. Cool and cut into 15 slices.

i thought that there couldn't possibly be that much cocoa, but i did it anyway and the result was great. very dark, moist and crispy on the outside. - 10 Sep 2010
