Scary Chocolate Spider Cakes

    Have fun turning these simple chocolate muffins into scary spider cakes for Halloween. Use this recipe to make the icing

    Serves: 8 

    • Cake
    • 60g butter, softened
    • 90g brown sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 3/4 cup (90g) plain flour
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
    • 90ml milk
    • To Decorate
    • pre-made icing (use this recipe.
    • 1-2 drops food colouring of your choice
    • skinny black licorice sticks for legs
    • mini marshmallows for eyes

    1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C. Put patty cups into muffin tins.
    2. Cake: Put the butter, sugar, egg and flour into a mixing bowl stir together until well mixed
    3. Sift baking powder and cocoa powder into the bowl. Add the milk and mix together.
    4. Use a tablespoon to divide mixture into patty cups.
    5. Bake for around 20 to 25 minutes until springy on top.
    6. To Decorate: Make icing and add food colouring of your choice.
    7. Ice the cakes with icing and while still wet place on liquorice legs. For eyes cut small marshmallow pieces in half and add a drop of black food colouring for the pupils.
